Subject: School organisation, Consultation Reference Number:981

Consultation summary:

Update:  Devon County Council's Executive Committee approved the proposals to enlarge Woolacombe Primary School from 130 places to 175 places with effect from September 2008, conditional upon the receipt of planning permission being received, at their meeting on 26 February 2008.

Devon County Council Local Authority, after consultation, have issued a public notice regarding the proposed enlargement of Woolacombe Community Primary School from 130 places to 175 places with effect from 1 September 2008.

The enlargement to the school implies that an additional 45 pupils will be admitted to the school. This is because of the net capacity figures which have to be quoted.  In reality during the summer term 2007 there were already 162 pupils on roll, so the increase is not nearly so great as first appears.

Background:

Devon County Council Local Authority consulted on the proposal to enlarge Woolacombe School between October 16th to November 30th 2007.   In response to the consultation:

There were 54 responses to the consultation.  44 in agreement and 10 which either disagreed with proposals or had significant concerns.

The Executive Member for Children and Young Person’s Services recently considered the proposals alongside the responses and subsequently determined, as agreed by all elected members, to proceed to the next stage in the statutory process: the publication of the public notice.

Children and Young People's Services

Purpose:

Within four weeks from the dates of publication of these proposals, any person may object to or make comments on the proposal up to and including 5:00pm on Thursday 7 February 2008.

The public notice is a distinct part of the process.  Therefore, any responses to the initial consultation cannot be carried forward and used as a response to the public notice unless you write and confirm that this is your wish.  Alternatively you may prefer to submit a new letter in response to the notice, or indeed not to respond at all.

If you decide to submit a response it would be extremely helpful if you could make it clear whether you agree or object to the proposals or simply want to make observations.
